Derrick Tyler Barker, 55, of Godfrey, was born on July 27, 1960. His soul was set free to soar in the Heavens with the Great Spirit at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2015.
He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family and his best friend and loving companion, Michele Emmons.
Derrick graduated from Alton High School and became a welder at Star Manufacturing until 1982. He attended Lewis and Clark Community College, where he was on the Dean’s list and the President’s list.
Derrick was a loving and caring person. He had a sharp wit, was quick to laugh and not afraid to voice his opinion. Derrick had two canine children, Trixie and Pixie; they were his constant companions. Derrick was a huge NASCAR fan and loved going to races at Talladega, Ala. He also enjoyed trips to Las Vegas, gambling and watching magic shows. His real joy was sitting at home playing cards with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Reuben Dale Barker.
He will be deeply missed by his mother, Eagle Feather Barker, and her companion, Ted Rousseau; sisters, Monica Star Jerrells, Traci Dale Barker and her fiancé Russ Campbell; and the love of his life, Michele Emmons.
Derrick was a gambler his whole life and he knew it was time to cash in his chips. He was ready for the big sleep.
A special thanks to the staff at DaVita Dialysis Center.
