Dona M. Boyer, 85, of Granite City, passed away at noon Monday, April 11, 2016, at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis.
She was born Dec. 17, 1930, in Granite City, a daughter of the late William G. and Helen L. (Pottschmidt) Harris. She married John Richard Boyer on Jan. 1, 1949, in St. Louis and he passed away Nov. 20, 2004. Dona was a licensed practical nurse and retired from St. Elizabeth Hospital in Granite City after 33 years of dedicated and caring service. She was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church of Granite City, where she was active with the Seafarers group. She was also a member of the New Hope chapter of Eastern Star and had served as a Past Worthy Matron and enjoyed attending H.O.P.E. widows’ luncheons. She volunteered with Gateway Regional Hospice and Figs and she and her late husband played the dulcimer and enjoyed their days of fishing. She cherished time spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and many friends.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Paul A. and Nancy Boyer of Glen Carbon; a daughter, Cindi Dugger of Rio Rancho, N.M.; five grandchildren and their spouses, Elizabeth and Keith Riesberg of Rio Rancho, N.M., Chris and Summer Boyer of Glen Carbon, Ryan and Jami Dugger of Fayetteville, Ark., Julie and Jon Reynolds of Bunker Hill, and John R. and Beth Dugger of Pewaukee, Wis.; 14 great-grandchildren, Cameron Boyer, Katie Riesberg, Alex Riesberg, Elyse Dugger, Katherine Reed, Finley Dugger, Harper Dugger, Brecken Dugger, Joshua Reynolds, Isaiah Reynolds, Hadassah Reynolds, Isabella Boyer, Savannah Boyer and Ataleigha Reynolds; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Carol and Jerry Davis of Clearwater, Fla., and June Meredith of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; other extended family and many dear friends.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Dr. David Dugger; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Marilyn and Bill Hasty and Joyce Stevenson; and a brother and sister-in-law, William and Joyce Harris.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be 10 a.m. until time of a Eastern Star service and funeral service at noon Saturday, April 16, 2016, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City with the Rev. Jeff Welch, the Rev. Lisa Guilliams and the Rev. Roy Boyer officiating. Burial will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
