Donna Mae Carter, 81, of South Roxana, passed away at 11:35 p.m. Thursday, April 16, 2015, at Eunice Smith in Alton under the care of BJC Hospice.
She was born June 9, 1933, in Mason City, Ill., the daughter of Walter and Alma (Dare) Surface.
She married Glenn W. Carter. He passed away in December of 1990.
Donna was a beautician and a bridal consultant during her early years before becoming a housekeeper. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Roxana, where she served as head deaconess for many years. Donna was a member of Senior Servants Group at Brown Street Baptist Church. Her daughter and husband were the center of her world. For Donna family came first and spending time with them gave her the most joy. She enjoyed sewing, making clothes and spending time in the kitchen cooking with her daughter.
She is survived by her daughter, Faye M. Carter of South Roxana.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one sister, Darlene Stolp.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until services at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto with the Rev. Mike Stark officiating.
Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
