Doris Louise Beneze, 85, of Godfrey, passed away at 4:10 a.m. Friday, March 27, 2015, at United Methodist Village in Godfrey.
She was born on July 1, 1929, in Alton, the daughter of Edwin and Dee (Deem) Buzan.
Doris married Nelson Lee Beneze Sr. on Oct. 8, 1948, and he preceded her in death in October 1980.
She graduated from Alton Senior High School in 1947 and went to Monmouth College prior to her marriage.
Doris worked at Baxter’s for many years. She was an awesome seamstress. Doris also served as the President of the Mothers Club. She was a Den Mother for the Boy Scouts of America. She was a Girl Scout Leader when her daughters were young. Doris served as a Precinct Committee Woman for the Republican Party in her younger years.
Doris is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Nelson Lee Beneze Jr. of Edwardsville, and Greg and Carol Beneze of Towanda; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Jim Filberth of Perry, Kan., and Joy and Gordon Yost of Fremont, Calif.; five grandchildren and their spouses, Erin Beneze and her husband, Jennings Hanna, Elisa Beneze, David Pizzurro and his wife, Krysten, Ashley Wolf and her husband, Mike, and Kevin Pizzurro and his wife, Pam; eight great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Milton and Elinor Buzan of St. Charles, Mo.; and a sister-in-law, Jane Buzan of Peoria.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a two brothers and a sister-in-law, Dr. Edwin Buzan, and Nelson and Mary Lou Buzan.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of funeral services at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton.
Burial will follow at Upper Alton Cemetery.
