Doris Marie Dodson, 88, of Godfrey, died at 2:29 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, 2014, at home with her family at her side.
She was born March 7, 1926, in Omaha, Neb., the daughter to the late Benjamin G. and Maria Theodora (Vetter) Howden Sr.
On April 3, 1948, she and Melvin R. Dodson were married in Wood River. He preceded her in death on May 25, 1992.
Doris had been a bookkeeping machine operator at Miller Mutual Insurance. She was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, Wood River Daughters of Isabella and had been a member of the Alton VFW Auxiliary.
Survivors include five sons, James (Jacque) Dodson of Aptos, Calif., Robert (Sherry) Dodson of Newburg, Ind., Thomas Dodson (Eldon Loud) of Imperial, Mo., Gerald Dodson (Connie Wooff) of Brighton, and John (Melinda) Dodson of Godfrey; two daughters, Marilyn (Butch) Wilds of Alton and Linda (Ken) Jonff of Edwardsville; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, William Dodson; a sister, Mary Dixon; and three brothers, John, Edward and Benjamin G. Howden Jr.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 2014, at Paynic Home for Funerals. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2014, at Holy Angels Catholic Church with Father James Flach as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Alton.
