Doris Montez Lemons, 84, of Wood River, passed away at 12:40 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, 2015, at Integrity Healthcare of Wood River.
Born on June 14, 1931, in Pacolet Mills, S.C., she was the daughter of Clarence Jones and Rose (Garner) Parker.
Doris served as a W.A.C. in the Army during World War II, then was employed as an assembler for Carter Carburetors for 22 years and then Intaglio Glass for 12 years and finally as a driver for Godfrey Bus Lines.
She is survived by a son, Kenneth R. Lemons (Debe Wilson) of Wood River; daughter, Susan R. (Mike) Handler of Wood River; four grandchildren, Chris (Kim) Handler, Melissa (Martin) Long, all of East Alton, Cody Handler (Amanda Perry), and Tiffany Lemons, all of Wood River; seven great-grandchildren, Brady, Caleb, Hailey, Elizabeth and Aubrey Handler, Madelyn Long and Natasha Perry; and nephews, Ricky and Larry Gentry, both of South Carolina.
Preceding her in death were her parents; stepfather, Wofford Garner; and sister, Carolyn “Babe” Gentry.
Private services will be conducted at Marks Mortuary in Wood River.
