Dorothy “Dot” I. Whyte, 79, of Cottage Hills, passed away Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, at Alton Memorial Hospital.
She was born on Jan. 29, 1935, in Pratt, Kan., the daughter of Harry and Irene (Stansil) Macgirvin.
She married Ray D. Weaver. He preceded her in death on Jan. 1, 1970.
Dot worked in housekeeping at Alton Square Mall for 30 years, until her retirement in 2006. She also worked as a homemaker for Senior Services Plus for 24 years at the same time. She tried to help all those she came in contact with and loved taking care of people. She enjoyed word search puzzles, crocheting, collecting salt and pepper shakers, country music, traveling to Branson, Christmas and the St. Louis Cardinals. Most of all she loved being with her family.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Mara and Richard Ervin of Pittsfield, Danielle and Tom Hinsy of Benld and Harry Raydean and Anna Mae Weaver of Springfield, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; her siblings and their spouses, Jean E. and Bufford “Red” Peevyhouse of Great Bend, Kan., Stanley and Peggy Macgirvin of Hutchinson, Kan., Peggy and Lanny Crupper of Haven, Kan., and Emery and Betty Macgirvin of Hutchinson, Kan., and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers, Dean and David Macgirvin.
Services will be private.
