Dorothy Mae Serwatka, 85, of Fairmont City, passed away at 12:17 p.m. Saturday, July 25, 2015, at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City.
She was born Dec. 4, 1929, in Madison, a daughter of the late John and Anna (Beroskey) Urban. She married Stanley F. Serwatka on Nov. 27, 1948, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Madison and he survives. She was a homemaker and member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Fairmont City and a member of the Polish Hall in Madison. She enjoyed her days of listening and dancing to polka music and was an exceptional cook. She will be remembered for the love and special times shared with family and friends.
In addition to her beloved husband, she is survived by twin sons, Terry Serwatka of Missouri and Jerry (Marcey) Serwatka of Fairview Heights; two granddaughters, Andrea (Shane) Serwatka of Fairmont City and Alicia (Evan) Wortman of Denver, Colo.; great-granddaughter, Libby; sister, Fran Janik of Godfrey; sister-in-law, Adele Balcer of St. Louis and Sister Joclyn Serwatka of Springfield, Ill.; brother-in-law, Roman Serwatka of Kansas City, Mo.; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Irene Gavlick.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be 10 a.m. until time of funeral Mass at noon Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father David M. Wilke as celebrant.
