Earnest Alta Goodall, 90, of Granite City, passed away at 10:48 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at Granite Nursing And Rehabilitation in Granite City.
He was born Feb. 15, 1924, in Spillertown, Ill., a son of the late Charles Richard and Lue Etta (Fowler) Goodall. He married Mary Lois (Lay) Goodall on April 25, 1942 in Wyatt, Mo., and she survives.
He retired from American Steel and General Steel after many years of dedicated service as a core maker. The United States Army veteran proudly served our country during World War II. He was a member of Mount Zion General Baptist Church in Granite City. He loved his days working on cars and lawn mowers. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends. In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Larry Allen and Shirley Goodall of Granite City; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Skip Meerdink of Longwood, Fla., and Cathy and Larry Pope of West Plains, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; other extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Charlie, Johnny and Joe; and two sisters, Clara Mae and Cora Jane.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Saturday, May 30, 2015, from 11 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Steven Gray officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.
