Eddie Spann, 92, of Florissant, Mo., and formerly of West Memphis, Ark., departed this life at 7:33 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2014, at Christian Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born Dec. 25, 1921, in Brandon, Miss., a son of the late Eddie Spann and Azolia (Batt) Spann Washington. He married the former Ola Mae (Thomas) Spann and she preceded him in death. He retired from the Tennessee Valley Authority after many years as a laborer of construction. Spann was a man of God, faithful in serving the Lord. He was rooted and baptized in the Apostolic faith and had followed the spiritual guidance of Bishop J.O. Patterson through the years. Eddie loved the outdoors and enjoyed his days of fishing and hunting. He was an excellent carpenter, always building and repairing around the house. His wisdom will live on in all whom knew him and his laughing and many talks with his family and friends will forever be cherished. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
He is survived and will forever be missed by three beloved daughters, Regina (Emma Spann) Golden of Florissant, Val Spann of Florissant and Levada Spann of Atlanta, Ga.; 10 cherished grandchildren, Doc, Wallen, Destiny, Vern Jr., Maya, Loki, Jonathan, Victoria, Marcus and Jacobi; one precious great-grandchild, Eden; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other extended family and many friends.
In addition to his beloved wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Eddie Spann Jr. and Vern Gill Spann; two dear sisters and two brothers, Carrie Moffitt, Minnie Lee Ross, James Spann and George Washington.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be 11 a.m. until time of funeral service at noon Saturday, Jan. 3, 2014, at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon, with the Rev. Clint Wisdom and Eddie’s family as celebrants. Burial will follow at Sunset Gardens of Memory in Millstadt, Ill.
