Edith L. “Lucy” Stuart, 80, of Granite City, passed away at 5:13 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, 2015, at her home with her family at her side. She was born June 20, 1935, in Erin, Tenn., a daughter of the late Edward and Christine (Hankins) Creek Sr. She married James C. Stuart in 1953 in East St. Louis and he preceded her in death on Dec. 23, 1975.
She was a dedicated and faithful homemaker, always looking out for the well-being of her family. She was known for her Southern hospitality and always willing to help others out in so many ways. She enjoyed her days of traveling, taking vacations, fishing and was all about a yard sale. She also enjoyed playing cards and was always on the lookout for the winning scratch-off lottery ticket. She will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends. She is survived by two beloved daughters and one son, Mary Ann Stuart-Zinn of Granite City and Peggy Grant Marler and husband, Jeff Marler, of Shiloh and James C. Stuart Jr. of Oklahoma; loving grandchildren, Emily (A.J.) Meadors, Evan Grant, Janet Marler, Kyler Marler, Dustin Stuart, Amanda Stuart and Christopher Stuart; many great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Vic Graham and wife, Bev Graham, of Granite City, Shelle Ridings and significant other, Kevin Frawely, of Granite City; stepgrandchildren, Diona Graham, Phillip Graham and Baylee Ridings; two cherished sisters and a brother, Bette Bertrand of Hamel, Joyce Stavely of McEwen, Tenn., and Dee Harvey and wife, Faye Harvey of Lebanon, Tenn.; many special nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved life partner of 35 years, Lloyd E. Goodman; son-in-law, Dr. Keith Zinn “The Gentle Giant”; three brothers, Edward “Jr.” Creek Jr., Walter L. Creek and James L. Creek; and a granddaughter, Jamie Lucille Stuart.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, 2015, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City, where funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2015, with the Rev. Mike Mayberry officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.
