Edna Lee Nicholls, 92, of Glen Carbon, passed away at 12:45 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2016, at her residence.
She was born Jan. 23, 1924, in Guthrie, Ky., the daughter of the late Ernest C. and Beulah (Jones) Clark. Edna was married and preceded in death by three husbands. Edna married Joe Burian in 1944 and he preceded her in death in 1985. Her second marriage was to Wilfred Hess, whom she married in 1989 and he preceded her in 1992. She then married Bob Nicholls in 1997, and he passed in 2002. Edna owned and operated Burian South Side Auto in Edwardsville with her sons for many years.
She is survived by two sons, Ronald J. Burian and wife, Joanne, of Glen Carbon and Stephen Burian and wife, Diane, of Edwardsville; six grandchildren, Laura Bouse, Robert Frey, Mark Frey, Stephen D. Burian, Sherry Jones and Jason Burian; 12 great-grandchildren, Conner and Claire Bouse, Kevin, Kyle, Korbin and Kayley Burian, Blake and Morgan Jones, Elijah Burian, Brandon Drew and Sam Frey; and one brother, Emmett Clark of Sydney, Neb. She was preceded in death by one son, Robert “Bob” Burian; three brothers, Austin, Leslie and Ernest Clark; and five sisters, Dorothy Harbry, Evelyn Allen, Wilmoth Rushing, Sally Wright and Sarah Kitsch.
Edna was a member of Eden United Church of Christ and several of the women’s organizations at Eden and she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 66 in Edwardsville.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at Weber & Rodney Funeral Home in Edwardsville. An Eastern Star Service will be held on Wednesday at the funeral home. The funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 7, 2016, at Eden United Church of Christ in Edwardsville with the Rev. John Roberts officiating. Burial will be at Buck Road Cemetery in Collinsville Township. The family requests memorials to Eden Church, American Cancer Society or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
