Edward E. Schmidt, 91, of East Alton, died at 5:37 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, 2014, at St. Anthony’s Health Center in Alton.
He was born Aug. 2, 1923, in West Alton, Mo., the son to the late George and Mary (Stormer) Schmidt.
On June 25, 1960, he married Betty Mabry in East Alton. She preceded him in death on Feb. 12, 2010.
The World War II U.S. Army Air Force veteran served in the European theater and upon his return home worked for Olin Corp., retiring after 42 years of service.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews, and a brother, Herbert Schmidt of Alhambra.
Besides his beloved wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Gary Schmidt; a sister, Bertha Mennemeier; and five brothers, William, Frank, Charles, George and Albert Schmidt.
Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until time of services at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014, at Paynic Home for Funerals. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Rosewood Heights, where he was a member, or 5A’s.
