Ellis Dale Miles, 78, of Granite City, passed away at 3:37 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016, in Glen Carbon.
He was born Feb. 19, 1938, in Dover, Tenn., a son of the late Owen Kelly and Virginia Ethel (Thomason) Miles. He married Gail Elaine (Wilhelmy) Miles on June 21, 1958, in Corinth, Miss., and she survives. Ellis retired in 2006 from Jones Motors after many years of dedicated service as a truck dispatcher. Following his retirement he owned and operated a trucking business. He enjoyed his days of gardening and fishing and was an avid bluegrass music fan. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife of 58 years, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Frank and Amy Miles of Glen Carbon and Steve and Dana Miles of Madison; two grandchildren, Andrew Owen Miles and Sara Jane Miles; three sisters-in-law, Joann Miles of Granite City, Gwen Hubert of Piedmont, Mo., and Gerry and Jerry Siner of Mitchell; one brother-in-law, Dale and Jamie Wilhelmy of Granite City; many nieces and nephews; other extended family and many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Morris Miles, Everett and Tina Miles, Kenneth Miles and Ross Miles; and a sister-in-law, Kathy Ribley.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City, where funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016, with the Rev. Tim Hall officiating. Burial will be at St. John Cemetery on Maryville Road in Granite City.
