Estelle V. Steinmann, 88, of East Alton, passed away on June 25, 2015.
Born March 3, 1927, in Monroe County, Ark., she was the daughter of the late Alvin E. and Elvertia (Phillips) Foster.
After early graduation from high school in Brinkley, Ark., she attended business school in Memphis, Tenn., and then worked in San Diego, Calif., for several years before marrying the late Lawrence J. McCoy. They lived in Tennessee and Arkansas before settling in Wood River to raise their family of six children.
On Aug. 5, 1966, she married Harold J. Steinmann in Alton, with whom she moved to Pangburn, Ark., in 1972 to raise their two children while operating a chicken farm for many years. Following retirement from farming, they moved back to the Wood River area in late 2005. He survives.
Surviving children are four sons and their spouses, Larry and Barb McCoy of Alton, Lonnie and Donna McCoy of East Alton, Bill and Linda McCoy of O’Fallon, Mo., and Christopher and Sungi Steinmann of Charlotte, N.C.; and four daughters and their spouses, Cheryl and Gary Pyle of Austin, Texas, Elaine McCoy and Sherri Colburn of Florissant, Mo., Beverly and Rick Workman of East Alton and Angela Babb of Bryant, Ark.
A loving matriarch to all in her family, she will be fondly remembered by 22 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by two brothers, Donald Foster of Searcy, Ark., Tony Foster of Rosebud, Ark., and a sister, Ruby Lynch of Dardanelle, Ark.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Zane Foster and Alvin E. Foster Jr.; and a sister, Hazel Shepard.
Visitation will be held 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 27, at Paynic Home for Funerals in East Alton followed by an 11 a.m. funeral with burial to follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Online guestbook available at www.paynicfh.com.
