Esther L. Taggart, 96, of Shipman, died at 6:16 p.m. on Thursday, July 24, 2014, at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton.
She was born Sept. 30, 1917, in rural Macoupin County, the daughter of the late Harry Otis and Gladys E. (Hackney) Fite.
Esther was a homemaker, quilter and seamstress.
She married Luther Mitchell Taggart on April 26, 1941, in Alton. He preceded her in death on March 7, 2007.
Survivors include two sisters and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Leo H. Strohbeck of Alton and Merna Buhs of Woodburn; brother-in-laws, Robert H. Kahl of Shipman and James R. and Louise Taggart of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Edna Mae Strohbeck, Thelma Schoeneman and Verna Kahl and brother, John Fite.
Visitation will be held from 9 until 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 1, at Shipman United Methodist Church.
Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 1, at Shipman United Methodist Church.
Burial will take place in Upper Alton Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Shipman United Methodist Church.
