Ethel Margaret Mazrum, 86, of Alton, passed away at 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 15, 2015, at Rosewood Care Center in Alton.
She was born Dec. 12, 1928, in Westville, Ill., the daughter of Steven and Raymonde (Detourney) Toth.
She married William Mazrum on Jan. 6, 1949, in Westville, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 5, 2010.
Ethel enjoyed socializing with her many friends doing a plethora of activities including bingo, cards, plays and concerts. She volunteered at St. Anthony’s for 53 years, amassing more than 17,000 hours of volunteer work. She also enjoyed traveling on her annual winter trips to places such as Florida, Europe, Hawaii and various World War II Ship Reunions.
She is survived by one son and his wife, Michael and Patricia Mazrum of Spain; her best friend, Macy Allen, of Alton, her godson, Steven Blair; and Nurse Nancy Blair.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Raymond Toth, Marian McCarthy, William Toth and Steven and Carol Toth.
Per her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded.
In honor of Ethel’s life, memorials may be made to St. Anthony’s Auxiliary or to the 5A’s Animal Shelter.
Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton has assisted the family with arrangements.
