Eugene Leon Stanberry, 83, of Glen Carbon, passed away at 9:24 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 13, 2015, at Eden Village in Glen Carbon.
He was born Oct. 15, 1932, in Charleston, Ill., a son of the late Clark Ernest and Edna Opal (Bensley) Stanberry. He married Mary Ellen (Douglas) Stanberry on June 13, 1959, in Charleston and she passed away on Nov. 9, 2003. He retired from the Higher Board of Education in Springfield after many years of dedicated service as an accountant. He proudly served his country during the Korean War. He was a dedicated member of St. John United Methodist Church in Edwardsville.
He is survived by a daughter, Shanna Boyer of Peoria, Ill.; grandchildren, Jordan, Abigail and Andrew; sister, Mary McQueen of Indianapolis, Ind.; other extended family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Stanberry.
In accordance to his wishes, he has donated his body to Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Irwin Chapel of Glen Carbon is in charge of arrangements; www.irwinchapel.com.
