Frances E. Jarrett, 96, died Thursday, April 2, at her home in Godfrey at the United Methodist Village surrounded by family.
She was born Aug. 9, 1918, the daughter to Laurence and Luella (Schafer) Jennings in Ashton.
Frances attended Ashton schools, graduating from AHS in 1936. She graduated from the University of Illinois in 1941.
She married Robert Maxwell Jarrett Aug. 23, 1941, at the home of her parents. They were married for more than 60 years. They moved to Byron, Ill., in 1946, where he established his veterinary practice and she was a homemaker and did his office work.
Fran was a school teacher in Byron for 25 years and directed the Chancel Choir at the United Church of Byron for nearly 40 years, retiring from both in 1988. She was a gifted pianist who shared her love of music from the time she was in high school. Fran enjoyed gardening, bird-watching and all things of nature. She volunteered for many organizations during her 53 years in Byron and then in Godfrey, where she and Bob moved in 1999.
Fran is survived by her six children, Susan Carey of Gainesville, Fla., Lynn Sabina of Ballwin, Mo., Dr. Robert (Cheryl) Jarrett Jr. of Rockford, Ill., Sallie (Jeff) Heintz of Bethalto, Winnie Albright of Elkhorn, Wis., and Libby (Mark) Saunders of Carmel, Ind.; 14 grandchildren, Patrick Carey, Dennis (Carrie) Carey of Springfield, Ill., Nolan (Vicki) Carey-Davis of Sanford, Fla., Suellen Carey of Gainesville, Fla., Kristin (Michael) Clark of Ballwin, Mo., Elizabeth (Patrick) Monahan of St. Louis, Ehren (Christie) Jarrett of Rockford, Ill., Daniel (Amy) Jarrett of Rockford, Ill., Jarrett (Yvette) Heintz of Missoula, Mont., Stephen (Erin) Heintz of Chicago, Danielle Albright of Sycamore, Ill., Michael Albright of Elgin, Ill., Colin Saunders of Westfield, Ind., and Hannah Saunders of Indianapolis; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Frances Jarrett Stewart of Waverly, Ill., and Irene Klenke Jennings of Golden, Colo., and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, mother, father and brother, Paul Jennings.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, April 6, at Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 7, at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Godfrey; the Rev. Jerry MeCaskey will officiate. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Waverly East Cemetery in Waverly, Ill.
