Frances Mae Sloan, 88, of Erin, Tenn., passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2015, in Chesapeake, Va.
She was born Feb. 2, 1927, in Nelsonville, Ohio, a daughter of the late Chester Ray and Nancy (Adkins) IIams. She married Raymond Edgar Sloan Sr. in 1954 in Ohio and he passed away on Aug. 26, 1983.
She was a dedicated and faithful homemaker and loved her days of gardening. She will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends. She is survived by five children and their spouses, Thelma and Dan Roberts of Logan, Ohio, Diana Lynn Deardorf of Chesapeake, Va., Gerald and Mary Sloan of Granite City, Raymond Edgar and Kelly Sloan Jr. of Weslaco, Texas, and Lisa and Len Davis of Granite City; special friend, Joe “Bubba” Mitchell of Erin, Tenn.; many grandchildren; great grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; one sister, Betty Dent of Grand Haven, Mich.; other extended family and friends. In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Oran IIams Sr.; and two sons, Fred Eugene Sloan and Oran IIams Jr.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2015, with the Rev. Luke Mesmeister officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army and may be accepted at the funeral home, www.irwinchapel.com.
