Frederick “Fred” Earl Queen, 83, of Holiday Shores, passed away unexpectedly Monday, April 4, 2016, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born Dec. 20, 1932 in DeSoto, Mo., the son of Francis Earl and Geneva (Lewis) Queen.
On Dec. 23, 1950, he married Patricia Delores McKay in DeSoto, Mo. She survives.
After graduating from DeSoto High School in 1950, he went to work at Missouri Pacific Railroad. They moved to Wood River, where he managed Dome Railway Services. He retired in 1992 and moved to Holiday Shores. Fred was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bethalto.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his six children, Constance Gibson, Cheryl Buell, Frederick Queen, Teresa Militello, Patricia Hargrave and Alicia Martin; 19 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; five siblings, Ronald Queen, Jack Queen, Kenneth Queen, Yvonne William and Russell Queen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2016, at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.
A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 9, 2016, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bethalto with Father Tom Liebler officiating.
Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville.
Memorials may be made to Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church or Shriners Hospital for Children.
