Gary Lee Horn, 68, of Edwardsville, passed away at 11:16 p.m. on Monday, July 4, 2016, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born Jan. 11, 1948, in Salt Lake City, Utah, a son of the late James and Betty (Hawkins) Horn. He married Rene (Bailey) Horn on April 14, 1990, at the chapel of the Granite City Army Depot and she survives. He retired in 1986 as a Chief Warrant Officer with over 20 years of dedicated service with the United States Army. He had served two tours in Vietnam and was a recipient of many medals, ribbons and commendations throughout his service. Gary was an avid fisherman and loved his days of fishing and belonged to the Tiki Bar Bass Club. He cherished his family and spending time with his grandchildren. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Donna Miller of Pekin, Jeff and Roxana Keck of Granite City and Dustin and Tonya Horn of Fort Lewis, Wash.; a daughter, Dawn Silva of Granite City; 11 grandchildren, Ryan, Lauren “Girly-Girl,” Reina, Scotty, Ashton, Aaron, Antonio, Brandon, Christian, Kelsey and Anna Grace “Baby-Girl”; one brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Robin Horn of Charleston, Ill.; one sister and brother-in-law, Tina and Steve Green of Charleston, Ill.; sister-in-law, Jennifer Hoffman of Indianapolis, Ind.; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Joshua Horn.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, July 10, 2016, at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon, where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2016, with Dr. Mark Eavenson and Rev. Mike Allen officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. Memorials may be made to
