Genevieve Josephine (Wedic) Kirksey, 91, of Granite City, passed away at 2:50 a.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at Granite Nursing and Rehab in Granite City.
She was born April 4, 1924, in Granite City, a daughter of the late Joseph and Frances (Balazy) Wedic. Genevieve had worked many years as a checker with Tri-City Grocery. She enjoyed her days of dancing and entertaining during the holidays.
She will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin James Kirksey, who passed away in 1987; three brothers; two sisters and a granddaughter, Desiree.
She is survived by a daughter, Patricia (Ronald) Pugh of Memphis, Tenn.; two sons, Dr. Frank (Laura) Kirksey Jr. of Hot Springs, Ark., and Michale (Sharon) Kirksey of Waterloo; adopted daughter, Melia (David) Rosenburg of Granite City; nine grandchildren, Richard, Daniel, Jimmy, Steven, James, Stephanie, Mick, Dustin and Deidre; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Marie Wcdic of Granite City; other extended family and friends.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be 5 p.m. until time of funeral service at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 23, 2015, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. Private burial will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. Memorials may be made to St. Louis Children’s Hospital and may be accepted at the funeral home, www.irwinchapel.com.
