Georgie Pauline (Berrong) Rodgers, 89, of Granite City, passed away at 6:30 a.m. Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Gateway Regional Medical Center.
She was born Feb. 9, 1927, in McGee, Mo. Georgie worked as a housekeeper at St. Elizabeth Medical Hospital and as a school cook for the Madison, Ill., School District. After retiring, she loved to go to the casinos and on many trips. She enjoyed crocheting bookmark crosses, giving them to anyone that wanted one. Georgie will be remembered for her outgoing friendliness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyman D. Rodgers, on June 4, 2001; her parents, Noah and Mattie (Duniphan) Berrong; and two brothers, Noah Berrong and John Berrong.
She is survived by and will be missed by her daughter, Tana and (Robert) Opich; a son, Kenneth and (Nikki) Rodgers, both of Granite City; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one sister, Christine Crader of Advance, Mo., and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2016, with Pastor Henry Crippen officiating at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. Burial will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. Memorials are suggested to the Disabled American Veterans.
