Gladys A. Deering, 91, of East Alton, passed away at 8 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, 2015, at Rosewood Care Center of Edwardsville.
She was born April 24, 1924 in Advance, Mo., to the late Ben and Fronie Elizabeth (Johnson) Bess.
She married Charles E. Deering on May 10, 1944, in Paragould, Ark. He preceded her on death Dec. 8, 1996.
Mrs. Deering had been a member of Friendship General Baptist Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She loved animals, working in the yard and tending to her garden.
Survivors include five daughters, Shirley (Shelby) Gibson of East Alton, Virginia Gibson of The Dalles, Ore., Angela Parrish of Collinsville and Sharon Maguire of East Alton; two sons, Ricky Deering of St. Louis and Jimmie Wallace of Wilsonville; and 32 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Larry Deering; and a daughter, Carolyn Nicholson.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015, at Paynic Home for Funerals with Joe Fletcher officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
