Grant H. Harbison, 87, of Cahokia and formerly of Granite City, passed away at 5:44 a.m. Sunday, July 12, 2015, at his home.
He was born March 15, 1928, in Granite City, the son of the late Grant Houston and Verna (Sutton) Harbison. He was the owner and operator of Harbison Trim Shop. He was a devoted member and Past Master of the Granite City Masonic Lodge No. 835 and a proud member of the Shriners, where he was active in the 400 Motor Patrol. He had also been a member of the Granite City Moose Lodge, Eagles Aerie and the VFW. In his younger days, he enjoyed being outdoors and water skiing. He was always trying to do for others throughout his life. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends. He married Sherry J. (Pogue) Harbison on July 3, 1993, in Granite City and she survives.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Eva Dean (Pogue) Harbison, who passed away in 1992. He was also preceded in death by a infant brother; two brothers, Ronnie and Don Harbison and a sister, Peggy Sharp.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Darrell G. Harbison, Robin Donaldson and Shawn Wilson; grandchildren, Sydney Harbison, Darrell Harbison Jr., Drew Donaldson, McKenzie Donaldson and Jackson Martz; great-grandchildren, Morgan and McKayla; four brothers, Harold “Bud” Harbison, Rex Harbison, Clayton Harbison and Steve Harbison; six sisters, Shirley Barton, Carolyn Martinez, Joyce Sneath, Debbie Miramontez, Linda Harbison and Theresa Gonzalez; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.
In celebration of his life and in accordance to his wishes, his gift of body will be to Washington University School of Medicine. Memorial visitation will be 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday, July 17, 2015, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. Masonic Services will be held at 7 p.m. followed by a celebration of his life service with the Rev. David Denton officiating.
