Gregory A. “Gary” Huniak, 56, of Granite City passed away at 3:10 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, 2014, at his home.
He was born Dec. 10, 1957 in Granite City, a son of Patricia J. (Eck) Huniak of Granite City and the late Nick Huniak.
Gary was a member of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church in Madison. He was an all-around mechanic, loving his days of building engines or helping others in their automotive needs. He enjoyed attending drag races and cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals. He was an avid duck hunter and was a good dog trainer. Gary was a special brother and uncle to many and cherished his dog. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
In addition to his beloved mother, he is survived by six brothers and sisters, David and Carol Huniak of Granite City, Nick A. and Diana Huniak of Maryville, Cheryl and Charles Causey of Granite City, Judy and Paul Besserman of The Villages, Fla., Stephen J. Huniak of Granite City and Patricia and Richard Relleke of Granite City; many nieces; nephews; great-nieces; great-nephews; other extended family and many friends.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014, with a Panikhida Service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Nativity of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church, 416 Ewing St. in Madison, at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2014, with Father Nicholas Finley as celebrant. Burial will be at the Nativity of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Cemetery in Glen Carbon.
