Harold “Shot” Mason, 82, of Alton, passed away at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015, at home with his family by his side.
He was born on May 16, 1932, in Alton, the son of the late Charles and Agnes (Golenor) Mason.
He married Beverly A. Barnes on Aug. 1, 1953, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Alton. She preceded him in death on Feb. 21, 2010.
Harold was a member of the Alton VFW Post 1308.
He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Julia and David Young of Wood River and Cindy Mason of Godfrey; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles “Pard” Mason of Florissant, Mo.; and one sister, Betty Hewitt of Alton.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Nick Mason; two sisters, Mary Nowlin and Virginia Eidson; and one brother, William Mason
In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 3 p.m. until time of funeral service at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015, at Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton with Pastor George Humbert officiating. Military rites will be conducted by Alton VFW Post 1308.
Cremation rites will follow.
Inurnment will be held at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Alton.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children Research Hospital.
