Harvey Lee Schuetz, 87, of Alton, passed away at 12:37 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014, at St. Anthony’s Hospital.
He was born Aug. 10, 1927, in Alton, the son of the late Lawrence and Ilah (Wilson) Schuetz.
Harvey served in the Navy during World War II.
He married Wilma Gerl on Oct. 1, 1947, in Alton. She preceded him in death on May 2, 2014.
He was active in many groups. He was a member of the old YMCA, Boy Scout Troop No. 57, the Junior Optimists, and the Hi Y group. He also coached, umpired, and sponsored for several softball teams.
He is survived by two daughters, Alice Schuetz and Carla (Marvin) Bridges, all of Alton; a granddaughter, Casey Marie (Eric) Buss of Godfrey; a grandson, Joey (Casey) Bridges of Staunton; five great-grandchildren, Reece, Nolan, Calvin, and Emery Buss and Connor Bridges; two brothers, Fred (Freida) and Donald (Nettie) Schuetz; and many other relatives and friends.
In addition to his wife, Wilma, he is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Millie; a niece, Linda Dawson; and a nephew, Lawrence Schuetz.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2014, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton.
Burial will take place at a later date in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to 5A’s Animal Shelter.
