Helen L. York, 88, of Arizona City, Ariz., and formerly of Granite City, passed away at 7:15 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014, in Scottsdale, Ariz.
She was born May 10, 1926, in Granite City, a daughter of the late Bert and Ida (Brooks) Petitt. She married Ralph W. “Buck” York on Nov. 2, 1946, in Granite City and he preceded her in death on Sept. 14, 1993. She had worked as a cashier at Walmart in Casa Grande, Ariz. She enjoyed her days of traveling and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends.
She is survived by a daughter, Sharon York of Arizona City, Ariz.; a son, Gary York of Fredricktown, Mo.; five grandchildren and their spouses, Angela and Brent Nelson of Arizona City, Ariz., Kimberly and Glen Sprankle of Maryville, Danielle and Jason Gilmore of Maryville, Amy and Dustin Bauer of Maryville and Megan and Junior Garcia of Memphis, Tenn.; seven great-grandchildren; other extended family and friends. In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Vera Cook and Meda Champion; and one brother, Edward Brooks.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2014, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014, with the Rev.
