Helen Louise Speidel, 94, of Godfrey, passed away Friday, June 5, 2015, at Integrity Health Care in Godfrey.
She was born Aug. 3, 1920, in St. Louis, the daughter of William and Lucretia L. (Kesterson) Brooks. She married Frank X. Speidel on June 24, 1944 in Jennings, Mo., at Corpus Christi Church. He preceded her in death on May 1, 1991.
Helen had many interests, including reading and her love for dogs. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Helen made friends easily. She had been employed at Sears and Roebuck as a Sales Associate for many years. She will be fondly remembered as a devoted wife and mother.
She is survived by a son and his wife, Robert and Caroline Speidel of Godfrey; a sister, Billie Disser of St. James, Mo.; two grandchildren and their spouses, Frank and Kimberly Speidel of Jerseyville, and Marie and Jeremy Boesch of St. Charles, Mo.; six great-grandchildren, Robert, Ruth, Ross, Raeanna, and Rory Speidel, and Elyse Boesch; a nephew and his wife, Mark and Ann Disser of St. Peters, Mo.; and a niece, Kathy Boul of Missouri.
In addition to her husband, Frank; she is preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Nancy Boul.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey with Fr. Steve Pohlman officiating. A luncheon at the church will immediately follow the funeral service.
Burial will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Louis.
