James “Jim” E. Cox, 83, of Granite City, passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at Missouri Baptist Hospital, St. Louis, with his loving family and friends by his side.
Jim was born May 12, 1932, in Granite City, a son of the late Clarence Willard Cox and Pauline (Glass) Cox.
Jim was a Korean War Veteran who proudly served his country in the United States Navy. On Aug. 17, 1951, Jim married Darlene Dehn, the love of his life. Jim was a dedicated and faithful member of Suburban Baptist Church, now Unity Baptist Church. His greatest joy was his relationship with Jesus Christ and spending time with his family and friends. Jim loved life, he loved to laugh, but most of all he loved his family and was very proud of them. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Darlene Cox of Granite City; loving children, Dawn (Randy) Bruder of Granite City, Debbie (Don) Harris of Granite City, Denise (Jim) Rosene of Rockford, Darla (Mike) Minnick of Panama City Beach, Fla., and Delora (Marty) DeRoche of Cutler, Ill.; dear brothers and sister, Gene Cox, Bob Cox and Terry Rea, all of Granite City; proud grandfather to 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; extended family and many friends.
In celebration of his life, a memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2016, at Unity Baptist Church, Granite City, with Pastor Mark Powell officiating. Private family interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon.
