James Leroy Guyer
James Leroy Guyer, 90, of Rochester and formerly of Granite City, died at 9:20 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, 2014, at Eden Village in Glen Carbon.
He was born May 19, 1924, in Zanesville, Ohio, a son of the late Charles H. and Helen C. (O’Brien) Guyer.
He married Mildred (Stoyanoff) Guyer on Aug. 16, 1943 in Detroit and she died Oct. 27, 1990.
He later married Nancy (Boston) Sexton Guyer on Oct. 5, 1996, and she died Oct. 12, 2012.
James retired in 1977 from Laclede Steel after many years of service as a superintendent in the Joist Department. The U.S. Navy veteran proudly served his country as a submariner during World War II. He was a member of the Rochester Christian Church in Rochester, where he enjoyed his small group Bible studies. He enjoyed his days of fly fishing, golfing and playing cribbage. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
He is survived by a daughter, Anita and Dan Forguson of Troy; stepson, Sam and Angie Sexton of Rochester; stepdaughter, Candice and Matt McCann of Rochester; grandson, Eric and Cecilia Forguson of Mascoutah; granddaughter, Erin Geringer of Livingston; five great-grandchildren, Kyle, Hannah and Jacob Geringer and Randy and Michael Forguson; step-grandson, Quinn and Tori McCann; step-great-granddaughter, Jay C. McCann; other extended family and many friends.
In addition to his two wives, he was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.
The family would like to thank the caring staff of Eden Village for their love and dedication shown to James.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon, on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014, from 11 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Charles West officiating.
Burial with military honors will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the Rochester Christian Church, 325 S. Walnut St., Rochester, IL 62563 and may be accepted at the funeral home. www.irwinchapel.com
