James Loy Chism Sr., 81, of Pontoon Beach, passed away peacefully at his home Thursday, Dec. 31, 2015.
He was born May 14, 1934, in Granite City to the late Loy and Ruth (Benscoter) Chism.
On Sept. 20, 1971, he and Patricia Ann Rozell were married in Granite City. She preceded him in death on Dec. 1, 2014.
James was a U.S. Army veteran and worked for U.S. Steel for 40 years, retiring in 1997 as a yard maintenance operator. He had been a member of Heritage Church, the VFW and the American Legion.
Survivors include two daughters, Angela Chism of Pontoon Beach and Pattie Nash and her fiancé, Kurt Baldwin of Greenville, Ill.; two sons, James Loy (Melodie) Chism Jr. of Granite City and Joe (Ina) Chism of Gillespie, Ill.; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Casey Nichols and Kyle Chism.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 4, 2016, at Wojstrom Funeral Home & Crematory, where services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016. Burial with military honors will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
