James Nathan Price, 88, of Granite City, passed away at 7:53 p.m. Monday, May 4, 2015, at Relais Bonne Eau Hospice House in Edwardsville.
He was born Feb. 24, 1927, in Mountain Grove, Mo., a son of the late Jerry and Elzora (McCall) Price. He married Merle Frances (Shields) Price Jan. 29, 1949, in Walnut Ridge, Ark., and she survives.
He retired in 1989 from Granite City Steel after 42 years of dedicated service in maintenance. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a former member of Grace Baptist Church in Granite City, where he had served as a deacon for 30 years prior to moving to Missouri. After returning to Granite City, he joined the First Baptist Church of Maryville. He enjoyed his days of golfing and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Patti and Daniel Patterson of Granite City; two sons and a daughter-in-law, David Price of Granite City and Richard and Leslie Price of Granite City; five grandchildren, David Price, Melissa Seamster, Aaron Stovall, Andrea Cruse and Megan Stovall; five great-grandchildren, Elijah, Alexis, Jackson, Ellison and Clinton; five sisters, Evelyn Murphy, Helen Murphy, Bernice Williams and Stella Riggs, all of Walnut Ridge, Ark., and Ruby Murphy of East Alton; other extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Ethan Price; one sister, Dosha Kifer; and three brothers, Leroy Price, Henry Price and Jesse Price.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2015, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 8, 2015, with the Rev. Adam Cruse officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Valley View Cemetery in Edwardsville.
