James W. Knuth, 81, of Wood River, formerly of Galesburg, passed away at home on Friday, Jan. 29, 2016.
He was born on Jan. 13, 1935, in Dallas City, the son of the late Marcus Knuth and Anita Ruth (Stevens) Lough.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Fonda Windom Knuth, formerly of Galesburg.
Other survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Chuck Swigart of Gilson, and Lorie and Mike Thurman of Washington; two sons and a daughter-in-law, James R. Knuth of Galesburg, and William and Alicia Knuth of Springfield; six granddaughters; three great-grandsons; one sister and brother-in-law, Sherry and Bob Weedman of Wyoming, Ill.; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Marcus “Jackie” and Charlotte Knuth of Galesburg, and Donald Knuth of Mendota; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
James worked for Santa Fe Railroad on the signal gang for four years. He worked for Whirpool for 40 ½ years, where he retired from in 1996. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Germany from 1956-1959. He loved the St. Louis Cardinals.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald Knuth and Daniel Knuth.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and no services will be held.
