Janet Sue Bateman, 70, of Bethalto, (formerly of Greene County) died suddenly on May 5, 2015, at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton.
Born in Carrollton on July 30, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Curtis Gano and Lucy Jane (Cox) Crum.
She married Terry Bateman on April 11, 1964, and he survives.
Also surviving are their children, Tim (wife, Robin) Bateman of Glen Carbon, Sue (husband, Jeff) Heinz of Godfrey; five grandchildren, Lucy, Libby and Eli Bateman, and Lauren and Rachel Heinz; a sister, Lucille Grizzle of Jerseyville; and a brother, Danny (wife Peggy) Crum of White Hall.
Janet had been a secretary at the Data Processing Center at SIUE from 1982 until retirement in 2004. She and her husband had been members of the First Baptist Church in Bethalto, and later at the First Family Church in East Alton. She loved to garden, but most of all she enjoyed watching her grandchildren compete in various sports.
As per her wishes, she will be cremated. A memorial visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. Monday, May 11, 2015, at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton. A memorial service will follow visitation at 11 a.m. Private inurnment rites will be held later. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
