Janice “Ya Ya” Lee Vassos, 70, of East Alton, passed away at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2015, at Bethalto Care Center.
She was born May 13, 1945, in Alton, the daughter to the late Laura (Clark) Johnson and Dewey Burgoyne Sr.
On May 28, 1966, she and Elias “Louie” Vassos were married in Alton. He survives in East Alton.
Janice worked for Owens Illinois Glass as a Box Maker & Cavity Checker and later retired from Olin Corp. as a Machine Operator & Inspector.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, John Vassos of Rosewood Heights; two grandsons, Joseph and Jacob; a brother, Dewey Burgoyne Jr. of East Alton; and three sisters, Carol (Leroy) Luck of Bunker Hill, Judy Luck of East Alton and Helen (Lowell) Wethington of Oxford, Miss.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, 2015, at Paynic Home for Funerals, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015, with the Rev. Andre Dobson officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Calvary Baptist Church in Alton.
