Jean A. Dunn, 92, of Granite City passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2015, at Eden Village in Glen Carbon.
She was born on July 26, 1922, in Joliet, a daughter to the late John J. and Katherine (McCanna) McCarthy.
Jean was a dedicated elementary school teacher for the Granite City School District, teaching children at Emerson School and Wilson School. She was a faithful member at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City and a member of the Senior Circle. Jean had a giving heart, volunteering her time for toy drives and helping out wherever needed. She loved animals, especially her dogs, who were her “Babies.” Jean will be remembered for her generosity and the many special times she shared with her family and friends.
She is survived by and will be missed her children, James Dunn of Collinsville, Susan Kilian of Ballwin, Mo., Kathleen Dunn of St. Paul, Minn., and Mary Ellen and (Edward) Fishburne of Atlanta, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and her brother, Robert McCarthy.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eynon Dunn, whom she married on Sept. 15, 1946; her sister, Agnes E. McCarthy; and her brother, Richard McCarthy.
Friends may call on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. In celebration of her life, services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 2300 Pontoon Road in Granite City, with Fr. Jeff Holtman officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville. Memorials are suggested to Puppy Rescue 911 or the Alzheimer’s Association.
