Jennifer Alayne Polk, 56, of Godfrey, passed away at 10:32 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014, at her residence.
She was born on Dec. 21, 1958, in Lansing, Mich., the daughter of Neville G. and Janice (Ranney) Polk.
Jennifer received her bachelor’s in journalism from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and served as a reporter for several newspapers in rural Illinois. After relocating to Alton, she worked with the Alton School District as a teacher’s aide for many years. Jennifer was a natural mentor, and her loving guidance made a lasting difference in the lives of many young people. She also enjoyed jewelry making, crocheting and writing, and will be long remembered for her gifts of laughter and storytelling.
Jennifer is survived by one sister, Stephanie Polk of Boca Raton, Fla.; by one brother and his spouse, Stephen G. and Patricia Polk of St. Louis; by her nieces and nephew, Kerri, Emily and Kenneth; and by many close and loving friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Per her wishes, cremation rites were accorded.
