Jimmy D. Ellis Jr., 54, of Alton, passed away at 12:15 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, 2015, at his residence.
He was born in Alton on Aug. 7, 1961, the son of the late Jimmy D. and Donna (Mathews) Ellis Sr.
Jim graduated from Law School at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale in 1995. After 13 years working as both a criminal prosecutor for St. Clair County, Ill., and as a personal injury plaintiff and defense attorney, Jim Ellis founded the Ellis Law Firm in 2008. Jim started teaching at Saint Louis University in 2012.
He is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Debra L. and Jerome Hall of Alton; seven aunts and uncles, Sharon and Jerry Cox of Alton, Riley and Gloria Mathews of Alton, Geroldine Trimm of Brighton, Rosetta Stone of Granbury, Texas, Lorraine and Martin Peters of Wood River, Rebecca Mathews of Alton and Mary Nassell, of Alton; and his best friend, Andrew Liefer of Shiloh; and his associate, Jennifer A. Beckett of Freeburg; and numerous cousins.
His parents preceded him in death.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015, at the Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton, where visitation will continue from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30, 2015, with Father Jim Walter, OMV, as celebrant.
Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial park in Godfrey.
