Joan S. Linhart, 85, of Granite City, died at 6:20 p.m. Saturday, June 4, 2016, at Fountain View Manor in Granite City.
She was born Jan. 7, 1931, in Granite City, a daughter of the late Claude and Gertie (Thurman) Schwendeman. She married Carl J. Linhart in October 1952 at the former Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Granite City and he survives. She was a dedicated and faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church, where she enjoyed many years of volunteering and participating with the Ladies Club and the funeral luncheon committee. She enjoyed sewing and tending to her husband, children and grandchildren. She will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends.
In addition to her beloved husband, she is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carla and Jerry Petrillo of Granite City; three sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Colleen Linhart of Mokena, Ill., Mark and Tami Linhart of Granite City and Patrick and Sherrie Linhart of Gillespie; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Millard “Poots” Schwendeman of Granite City; other extended family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Claude “Beau” Schwendeman; and a sister, Peggy Diefenbach.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be 10 a.m. until time of funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2016, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2606 Washington Ave. in Granite City, with Father Jeff Holtman as celebrant. Memorials may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church. Irwin Chapel of Granite City in charge of arrangements.
