JoAnn Svoboda, 77, of Granite City, passed away at 11:05 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, 2014, at the Edwardsville Nursing and Rehabilitation in Edwardsville.
She was born July 11, 1937, in Granite City, a daughter of the late John and Katherine (Janek) Stroke.
JoAnn retired from the U.S. Government Records Center with 14 years of service as a clerk. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and enjoyed music and her walking club. She will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Mary Kay Svoboda of Glen Carbon; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carla and Gary Sitze of Ballwin, Mo., and Jeannie and John Burch of Edwardsville; 10 grandchildren, Lauren, Lindsey, Kelly, Joey and Amy Svoboda and Danielle, Kelsie and Katie Sitze and Kyle and Hannah Burch; one brother, Victor Stroke; one sister, Gloria Sparks; other extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters, John, Genevieve, Lorrine, Katherine, Alfred and Daniel.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road, on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2014 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 12, 2014, with the Reverend Charles West officiating.
