John Raymond Dooley Sr., 76, of Alton, went home at 10:18 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2016, at his residence with his family by his side.
He was born in Alton March 14, 1939, the son of the late Corporal Raymond and Edna (Carter) Dooley.
He married the love of his life, Jacqueline Kolesa, Feb. 16, 1956, in St. Charles, Mo. She preceded him in death May 23, 1998.
He was the father of Terri Lynn (Matthew) Milcic, John II (Julie) Dooley and Mimi Dooley.
He had six grandchildren, Aaron, Alyssa, Tony, Jared, Steve and Wesley; and seven great-grandchildren, Amy, Alejandro, Wesley, Ariah, Alexis, Tristyn and Avaya.
In addition to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he is survived by a sister, Linda (Don) Hudgens of Jacksonville; a brother-in-law; Larry Kolesa of Hamburg; and many extended family members.
John attended Alton High School Class of 1955. He served his country as an MP in the Army. After a long tenure with the Elevators Constructors Local 3, he retired as an elevator superintendent. He was active with the Owls & Eagles Club. As a Shriner, he traveled to many parades and delighted the crowds with his trike skills. John was an avid fisherman and dedicated morel mushroom hunter.
In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by three sisters, Maryann Neudecker, Janice Lux and Diana Macias.
He will be dearly missed by all.
The family would like to thank Nancy Bennett and her family for the love and companionship they gave John.
Visitation will be at 9 a.m. until the time of the Masonic Services at 10:15 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2016. Memorial service will follow at 10:30 a.m. at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey with Pastor Charles West officiating.
Inurnment will follow at Upper Alton Cemetery in Alton.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Memorials may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
