Joseph Ivan Martin, 66, of Granite City, died on Friday, Dec. 11, 2015, at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City.
He was born on May 29, 1949, in St. Louis, the son to the late M. Joseph and Rose (nee: Sparks) Martin.
Joseph married Margaret Ann Lizbar in New Madrid, Mo. She preceded him in death.
The U.S. Army veteran served during the Vietnam War. He was a school bus driver for Laidlaw and was a sawmill operator for 17 years with Jennison-Wright Corporation in Granite City. Joseph was a member of the Free Spirit CB Club for many years and was a member of Calvary Life Church.
Besides his mother, Joseph is survived by three sons, the Rev. Paul (Rebecca) Martin of Granite City, Steven (Mary) Martin of Nashville and Jason Martin of Granite City; eight grandchildren, Joseph Sharp, Christina Alsbury, David Sharp, Christopher Sharp, Paul Chapman, Peter Martin, Kirstyn Martin and Sophia Martin; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Richard Martin of St. Clair, Mo., Wayne (Brenda) Martin of Jacksonville, Fla., and Jay (Lee) Martin of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and four sisters, Gloria Cotton of Belleville, Helen (Wayne “Bud”) Furhman of Belleville, April Glass of St. Ann, Mo., and Paula Golightly of Cuba, Mo.
Joseph is preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Martin; granddaughter, Cassandra Sharp; brother, Eddie Martin; and twin siblings, Jack and Jackie Martin.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2015, at Calvary Life Church in Granite City. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2015, at the church with burial to follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
