Joseph S. “Joe” Thomas Jr. and affectionately known as “Old Man”, 76, of Granite City, passed away at 8:24 p.m. on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at his home.
He was born on August 8, 1937 in St. Louis, MO, a son of the late Joseph S. and Lillian (DeWalle) Thomas Sr.
He married Ruthann (Toedtli) Thomas on June 10, 1966 in St. Louis, MO and she survives.
He retired in 2001 from the State of Missouri after more than 20 years of dedicated service as a mechanic. He loved his days of fishing and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife of 47 years, he is survived by three children and two sons-in-law, Gloria and Salvador Aristico of Carbondale, Joseph “Joey” Thomas III of Granite City and Melissa and James Marsh of Granite City; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert “Bob” and Bernice Thomas of St. Louis; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Betty Burnett of Granite City and Pat and Jim Christian of St. Louis; other extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandchild.
Services were through Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City.
