Josephine Ragsdale, 78, of South Roxana, passed away at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at OSF St. Anthony’s Health Center in Alton.
She was born Sept. 15, 1936, in Russellville, Ky., the daughter of William Irven and Rev. Essie May (Abston) Carlisle.
Josephine had worked for housekeeping for St. Anthony’s Hospital and then for Tyler’s Professional Cleaning Service before retiring.
On June 19, 1959 in Wood River, she married Harold Carnell Ragsdale. He died Dec. 13, 1986.
Surviving are two daughters, Donna Jo Ragsdale and Brenda (Harry) Large all of South Roxana; three grandchildren, Robert (Haley) Large, Suzzette Large and Robin (Anthony) Taylor; two great-grandchildren, Addison Taylor and Haddley Large; two brothers, Charles D. Carlisle of East Alton and Kenneth W. Carlisle of Bethalto; and many special nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, great-granddaughter, Haidyn Large; five brothers, Paul “Jr.”, J.W., Robert, Lemmie Ray and James Carlisle; two sisters, Lucille and May Belle; and two siblings in infancy.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Marks Mortuary in Wood River, where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday. Pastor Timothy Keller will officiate.
Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
