Joyce Ann Settles, 70, of Wood River, died early Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
Born Oct. 6, 1945, in Alton, she was the daughter of Edward and Sylvia L. (Shattuck) Walsh. Following the death of her father, she was adopted by Milford Liley.
A graduate of East Alton-Wood River High School, she was a secretary/receptionist, but her true passion was dedicating herself to her family and friends. A unique soul, Joyce had a great sense of humor and a spunky personality. She enjoyed spending time with her family, painting, music, genealogy and gardening.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Richard Settles; daughter, Tonya Meyers of Colorado; two sons, Kris (Natasha) Smith of Maryland Heights, Mo., and Greg (Wendy) Settles of South Roxana; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; mother, Sylvia L. Liley-Wery of Union, Mo.; three brothers, Robert Liley, Richard (Brenda) Liley and Rodger Liley (John Napela); sister, Jeanette (Robert) Ackerman; and nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her father and stepfather; and eldest son, Lonnie Smith Jr.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service at noon Monday, April 4, 2016, at Marks Mortuary in Wood River.
Private burial will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
Joyce will be always remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother whose greatest passion was helping others.
