Julia Eileen Rhea Bowers, 98, of Godfrey, died peacefully at Morningside of Godfrey (formerly Provision Living) in Godfrey on July 3. She was born Jan. 7, 1917, in Alton, the daughter to the late Thurman and Julie (Schillinger) Corey.
On Oct. 10, 1939, she married Belmont Rhea, who preceded her in death. She married Paul Wilson Bowers on June 9, 1979, he also preceded her in death.
Eileen was an inspector at Olin Corporation for 41 years, retiring in 1979. She served as a representative for the Westerner Club four years. Eileen enjoyed visits with her family, playing games (especially Zilch), BINGO, watching Lawrence Welk, and in earlier years, dancing, cruising and traveling to their timeshare in Arkansas with family.
She is survived by her brother, Thurman Corey of Bethalto; a son, John Thurman Show of Denver, Colo.; three grandchildren, all of Colorado, Debra Eileen Show Edelen Kelly and her four children, Christopher Michael Edelen, Lisa Ann Edelen Sal, Samuel Alan Edelen and David Burton Huey; granddaughter, Dena Kay Show Apadaca and her husband, Mark; and grandson, Daryl John Show. Also surviving is her great-grandson, Tony Ray Ottwell and the son of granddaughter, Dawn Marie Show Ottwell Wyatt.
She is also survived by her stepson-in-law, Kenny Ringhausen of Wood River, stepson and his wife, Dick and Melissa Bowers of Springfield; six stepgrandchildren, Susan Fair and her husband, Tim of Dallas, Texas, and their children, Mitchell Fair and his wife, Erin, and son, Braden; Selinda Jensen and her husband, Craig, of Edwardsville and their children, Jacqueline and Garrett Jensen; David Ringhausen and his wife, Peggy, of Coppell, Texas, and their daughters, Tori and Alyssa Ringhausen; Andy Bowers of Springfield and his fiancée, Halley Huddleston, and her children; Ryan Bowers and his wife, Andrea, and their daughter, Sydney of Washington, Ill.; and Carrie Bowers of St. Charles, Mo., and her fiancée, Andrew Coon.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Dorothy (Johnson) Corey; granddaughter, Dawn Marie Show Ottwell Wyatt; sisters, Bernice Weigand and Verna Killam; and stepdaughter, Jacqueline Bowers Ringhausen.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 2015, at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
The family wishes to thank all who helped care for her over many years, both at Villa Rose in Bethalto and Provisions Living in Godfrey.
In lieu of flowers and at the family’s request, memorial contributions may be made to the general fund of the United Presbyterian Church of Wood River.
