Kathleen Mae Jones, 64, of Glen Carbon, passed away at 6:26 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at her home.
She was born Feb. 14, 1951, in Joliet, Ill., a daughter of the late Carl and Marcella (Underwood) Johnson. She married Robert Jones on Jan. 22, 1972, in Plainfield, Ill., and he survives.
She was a librarian and volunteer at the Glen Carbon Centennial Library for eight years. She was a member of the Edwardsville area League of Women Voters, Kiwanis Club of Glen Carbon and the University of Illinois Extension Master Gardeners Club. She had served on the Glen Carbon Homecoming Events committee and enjoyed attending tai chi classes at the Senior Center. She had a special love of nature, being outdoors, watching the birds, photography, gardening and traveling. She enjoyed her home and surroundings here in Glen Carbon and also in Wyoming. Her favorite travels would take her to a beautiful beach or majestic mountains. Kathleen was cherished as a “mother” to her entire family and especially her nieces and nephews. She will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and many friends.
In addition to her beloved husband of 43 years, she is survived by two brothers and a sister-in-law, Carl and Dolores Johnson of Powder Springs, Ga., and Ronald Johnson of Aurora, Colo.; two sisters, Norma Catlin of St. Louis and Sandra Hoskins of Kansas City, Kan.; 25 nieces and nephews; 23 great-nieces and great-nephews; mother-in-law, Ada Jones of Normal, Ill.; many cousins; other extended family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Beverly Zalateal.
In celebration of her life, a memorial gathering will be held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, June 8, 2015, at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon.
